Fiberglass Boat Mold Project Continues

Since my last post I have been chomping at the bit to get this hull to the point of starting the fiberglass mold. I have not been very successful. This hull has two sets of strakes on it that I have just had a tough time getting right. The first ones that I attached were too wide and too deep. The set that is attached now is much closer to scale.

When I do build the fiberglass mold for this hull … I want it to be as close to perfect as I can manage. In an effort to get it right, I begin by scrapping off the strakes that I already attached and then proceed to clean up the epoxy with sandpaper. This is always heart wrenching. Just as I think the work is done, more work appears. That is one of the most challenging things when trying to reproduce a scale appearance. Anyway, I decided make the strakes from the same stock that I used before only this time I would use my micro table saw to cut the triangle pieces of wood stock in half before I attach them to the bottom of the hull. At half the size they should look much closer to scale – which they did.

Check out the pictures.
